Dr Joanne Broadhead
Joanne Broadhead is an Independent Consultant specialising in parenteral product development and manufacture. Prior to forming her own consultancy company in 2011, she worked for many years in the Product Development group at AstraZeneca. Within AstraZeneca she led both formulation and manufacturing teams and from 2006-2011 she managed the pilot scale parenteral manufacturing facility at the company’s Charnwood site. In her current role Joanne works with client companies on various parenteral product development projects. She also works part time with the DeMontfort University Quality by Design team in a business development capacity and as a Lecturer on their postgraduate MSc programme. Joanne is a registered Pharmacist with a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Mrs Joanna Simmons
Jo Simmons is principal scientist and project team leader in Pfizer’s Pharmaceutical Sciences division in Sandwich, United Kingdom. Jo graduated from the University of Greenwich with BSc (1st Class Honours) in pharmaceutical sciences and has extensive experience in medical device and pharmaceutical product development. Jo started her career at Pfizer in 2000 as a formulation scientist in Pharmaceutical R & D. Over the subsequent thirteen years, she has held positions of increasing responsibility in the design, development and commercialisation of liquid, semi-solid and solid dosage forms for human (adult and paediatric patients) and animal health. Jo’s passion lies in sterile product development and she is a strong advocate for seamless integration of commercial and GMP process best practice into the R&D; space, terminal sterilisation cycle development, container closure integrity and continuous improvement. Jo is a member of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Parenteral Drug Association.
   

APS Drying Technologies for Biopharmaceuticals

The APS Parenteral & Therapeutic vaccines/Biologics/Proteins and Macromolecules Focus Groups will be holding the following joint meeting:

 

'APS Drying Technologies for Biopharmaceuticals'.

Venue:  Burleigh Court, Loughborough

Date:  Wednesday 28th January 2015

Speakers :

Including  Dr Richard Kaye (GSK), Geoff Smith (DeMontfort University), Kevin Ward (Biopharma Technology Ltd).

Topics:

The meeting will look at the latest challenges and opportunities in the preservation of biopharmaceuticals. It will cover both conventional freeze drying but also look at alternative technologies such as spray drying. There will be presentations on the impact and selection of Process Analytical Technologies for freeze drying, the incorporation of ice nucleation as at tool for shortening processing times and improving batch  homogeneity. There will also be presentations on the impact of formulation selection  and the industrial application of spray drying in biotherapeutics.
