Chairman's Blog
I would like to wish all members and followers of the academy a very Happy New Year. The academy is moving forward with the introduction of post nominal qualifications for all members. These will be implemented from March 1st and will include "student member", Member (MAPS) and Fellow (FAPS). The secretariat of the academy will be in touch with respect to your membership in the coming weeks. The academy is very conscious of its role as been a facilitator and promoter of the latest developments in the Pharmaceutical Sciences and to ensure that we continue to do this effectively we are revising and boosting our Focus groups. There are several important scientific and professional conferences being organised by the academy and its focus groups in 2011, please click on the events to get more details. We will be shortly putting out the 2nd call for papers for the academys conference PharmSci 2011 "The Science of Medicines". For our early career members I would particularly like to draw your attention to the Industrial Insights meeting, April 14th & 15th at Pfizer, Sandwich, Kent. I am attending myself and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible at the event. The academy is always keen to work with partner organisations and through collaboration ensure the very best subject leaders are given a conference platform to disseminate the work taking places within that discipline. It is also through collaboration and partnership that we can draw strength and influence to ensure that the promotion and advancement of Pharmaceutical Science continues to be a key priority through 2011 and beyond.

Chairman's Blog
I am delighted to introduce the APS new look website. Please have a good look round. Please also have a look at the “about us” section as the Board of the Academy have very ambitious plans to move the APS forward to be an excellent Professional body for Pharmaceutical Science in the UK working for both the benefit of the science and its members. Current members of the Academy will be contacted shortly to advise them of the new membership structure and we hope to be receiving applications for admission to Fellowship in the New Year.
Over seven hundred pharmaceutical scientists attended the UK-PharmSci Conference 2010 earlier this year (you can view some of the presentations, photos and video from the event at http://www.ukpharmsci.org). Now the programme committee is hard at work on UK-PharmSci Conference 2011 to develop another exciting programme that will appeal to those working in the various topic areas of the pharmaceutical sciences.
The Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences is delighted to announce the Science Chair for UK-PharmSci Conference 2011 is Professor Richard Guy of the University of Bath whose research interests include skin barrier function characterisation, transdermal drug delivery, enhancement of percutaneous absorption, and skin penetration and topical bioavailability.
The aim of the UK-PharmSci Conference 2011 is to showcase the best of pharmaceutical science from the UK, and around the world. It will bring together academic and industrial institutions, discuss state-of-the-art technologies and provide a platform for the development of new pharmaceutical talent.
So, please make a note now of the dates for your diaries - 31st Aug to 2nd September 2011 at the East Midlands Conference Centre, University Park, Nottingham.
If you have any ideas with respect to future activities for the Academy please do not hesitate to contact me.
